POWDER-ROOM PROPOSITION

by T'Lin -- 1/13/2006

The door opened behind shirley as she washed her hands. Looking up, she saw Bev in the mirror, still disheveled from the activity Shirley had witnessed through Denny's office window.

Shirley was still fuming over that ... Denny Crane had done many very unprofessional and tasteless things in his life, but this episode took the cake. Without turning to acknowledge the other woman, Shirley asked, "What are your intentions?"

"At this moment," Bev replied with a smile, as she stepped into a stall, "I intend to pee."

Exacerbated, Shirley shook her head, and counted to ten before clarifying, "I meant in regards to Denny."

There was a flush, then the other woman joined her at the sink. "I know," she said, turning on the faucet. Slowly and deliberately, she washed her hands, never once looking at Shirley as she added, "I intend to marry him, of course."

"Why?" Shirley asked.

"Why not?" Bev asked back. Only then did she actually look at Shirley, as she added, "You had your chance, my dear. You blew it."

"What are you talking about?" Shirley asked, wondering what Denny had told this woman about her, to make her say such a thing.

"Look, dear," Bev started, very condescendingly, "I know you've got a thing for Denny, and you're jealous ... it's only natural, after all ..."

She got no further, as Shirley interrupted, "My relationship with Denny Crane is purely professional. You, on the other hand ... well, I'm not sure what you're after." After a moment to compose herself, she continued, "Look, Bev ... episodes like the one I just witnessed will not happen in these offices again, do I make myself clear?"

"What Denny and I do in the privacy of his office ..." Bev started to say, but was cut off once again.

"That's the whole point, *dear*," Shirley said with some sarcasm, "it wasn't private at all."

"Well, the heat of the moment, and all," Bev said, a bit shyly. At that moment, she stepped into Shirley's personal space, lifted her hand to the other woman's face, and caressed her cheek as she added, "You need to loosen up a bit." She then leaned forward and kissed Shirley on the lips, before continuing, "Come on back to Denny's office with me ... I'll show you a thing or two, and by the time you're nice and relaxed, Denny should be ready to take care of both of us."

Shirley was speechless, as she felt the other woman kiss her once again. She tried to pull away, but not very forcefully, as she felt Bev's arm wrap around her shoulder and turn her towards the mirror.

She looked up as Bev said, "Just look at us ... how could Denny resist such a lovely pair?"

Unfortunately, Shirley knew *exactly* how Denny would react to seeing the two of them, together, like this. The image that popped into her mind was as disturbing as what she had seen through his office window ... more so, in fact, as she knew she would enjoy it as much as he would ... but she could not allow such a thing to happen.

Deliberately stepping away from Bev, Shirley squared her shoulders, and straitened her jacket, as she said, "I will forget you ever made this proposition to me ... and I suggest you do the same." She then stepped toward the door, turning once again to add, "I don't trust you ... if you do *anything* at all to hurt Denny Crane, I *will* come after you."

And with that threat hanging in the air, Shirley left the powder room.
