A WEEK IN PARADISE

by T'Lin -- 0505.21

I woke this morning, and had to convince myself that this was all real ... and not one of Tom's holodeck recreations B'Elanna borrowed so we could 'get away' for a while. But the view from our patio is proof enough. The cool early morning breeze makes me shiver slightly, as I write in my journal and sip my coffee, watching the yachts glide in and out of their slips. Surrounding the harbor, a juxtaposition of old world and new ... the tranquility of gently swaying palms and the occasional sea bird flying over head, marred only slightly by the sound of construction in the distance.

I'm finding it hard to believe that for the next week, B'Elanna and I will be alone in paradise -- literally, as this is a small island in the Bahamas called Paradise Island -- with none of the modern conveniences we have come to rely on. The resort, called Club Land'Or, is the last of it's kind ... a hold out, as it were, to the traditions of hospitality that the Bahamas were famous for throughout the 20th century. Since the early 21st century, they had been surrounded by a mega-resort called Atlantis, which had grown throughout the years; casinos, restaurants, beaches, bars, amusement park and aquarium, among other attractions, offering round-the-clock entertainment on a grand scale.

Club Land'Or, on the other hand, had remained small -- only 75 rooms available -- and very personal. B'Elanna tells me that, by the end of the week, we'll know the staff by name, and most of the other vacationers, as well. Personally, I'm glad B'Elanna chose this place since it seems like the perfect place to just sit by the pool, and relax ... something we both need after all the debriefings.

Morning #2 -- what an amazing night we had last night. After spending the day touring the island, and sunning by the pool, we changed our clothes and went to the luau. The local food was amazing; traditional items such as rice and peas, conc fritters, mahi-mahi, and fried plantains, and all the Bahama Mamas we could drink. B'Elanna and I were quite tipsy by the time the entertainment started. The rhythm of the local music is quite addictive, which would explain why we both got up and danced.

The truly amazing part of last night, however, was the limbo dancer. I've never seen a human quite so flexible. His finale, after a long process of ever decreasing levels of the burning pole, looked impossible. Two poles, both on fire and held up by beer bottles, and he slipped under them without difficulty ... truly amazing.

Of course, early in the show, we were all encouraged to give it a try, and I found B'Elanna's performance most enlightening. I knew she was limber, but I had no idea she was *that* limber. When she returned to our table, I asked her about her flexibility, and she promised to give me a personal demonstration later ... and boy, did she ever!

Now, I must go and wake her up, so we can get ready for the busy day ahead.

Morning #3 -- yesterday was filled with fun in the sun. we started the day quite early, joining about thirty others on a 45-minute catamaran ride to Rose Island, where we spent the day swimming, snorkeling, drinking, eating and playing. I was right in my element, but it took B'Elanna a while to get used to the snorkeling mask -- they were not designed to accommodate Klingon forehead ridges -- but once we made a few adjustments, she seemed to enjoy herself. After about an hour in the water, we were famished, and made our way to the outdoor grill, where chicken and fish was being cooked, along with an assortment of vegetables. Taking our fully laden plates, and a generous supply of the ever present rum punch, we made our way toward the center of the island, and the secluded tables and hammocks available for our use.

I must admit, after we ate, I nearly fell asleep lying in her arms ... it was so peaceful.

Our lovemaking that night was far more tender than the night before ... I'm constantly amazed by B'Elanna. Fierce warrior, inventive engineer, caring partner, and loving companion. I often wonder what I ever did to deserve her.

Day 4 -- it rained late into the night. There is quite a chill in the air this morning, as I sit here with my morning cup of coffee. B'Elanna, of course, is still asleep, and since we don't have any major plans for the day, I'll let her stay in bed as long as she wants.

Yesterday was one of those days devoted to being a 'tourist' -- you know, going to all the places you're *supposed* to go to when in the Bahamas. Personally, I found the Straw Market to be quite a disappointment ... one stall after another of mass-produced merchandise that is probably made in a sweatshop in the middle of nowhere. 'Local' merchants, eager for your business, pouncing on you if you show the slightest bit of interest in something on their table. Once or twice, I thought B'Elanna was going to bite someone's head off ... it was rather amusing to see her growl at them.

Anyway, we left the market, and walked along the streets of Nassau, going into the various shops, before taking the ferry back to our resort, where we had a leisurely lunch. While we ate, there was a fashion show put on by three local designers. The brightly colored clothing, in flowing fabrics, was beautiful, and B'Elanna and I each bought an outfit.

Day 5 -- I can't believe it's almost noon. I've never stayed in bed this late in my life ... but I'm not complaining, mind you. You see, yesterday it rained on and off, all day long, so we stayed in, and made love. I've never known a lover who was quite as insatiable as B'Elanna ... other than myself, that is. At last, I seem to have met my match.

Anyway, tonight, we have plans to go on a dinner cruise, and since the sun is shining once again, I plan on spending the rest of the day by the pool.

Day 6 -- the dinner cruise was lovely ... a perfect end to a perfect day. I think the ocean air has an aphrodisiac effect on B'Elanna, as she could barely keep her hands off of me all night. I must admit, it was quite arousing standing against the railing, watching the sunset, with B'Elanna pressed against my back, rubbing against me ... I was more than ready to jump into bed as soon as we were back.

... and there she is again, nuzzling my neck as I write this. Looks like our last day here will get off to a good start ...

Going home -- the week is over, and we have to return to reality. Last night, after an extravagant dinner of lobster and champagne, we took a walk along the harbor, and made our way into the casino at Atlantis ... after all, it wouldn't seem right to spend a week looking across the harbor at this luxurious bit of 21st century pretentiousness without seeing it from the inside. Just as I had suspected, it was crowded and noisy, so we strolled back to our quaint little room, and made love once again.

But now it's all over. As we sit here on the shuttle, returning to San Francisco, part of me is eager to know what our next assignments will be, but part of me is dreading it. After all, there's no guarantee that B'Elanna and I will be able to be together after today. Regardless of our assignments, our love will go on ... but I must admit, I'd far more prefer the togetherness of this past week over a long-distance love affair.
